Dr. M. Nabyl Chenaf is a professor of Architecture and Dean of the school of Architecture, Art and Design at the American University in Dubai. Before that, he worked as the Editor of the Arabic/English edition of l”ARCA magazine of Architecture, Design and Visual Communication. He taught Interior Design, Architecture and Urban Planning since 1989 year of completion of his Ph.D. from Nottingham University - UK. He served as the president of the national committee of pedagogy of town management and urban techniques in Algeria, as well as a member/chair of organizing and scientific committees in several international conferences on Architecture and Urban Planning in the UAE. He is a peer reviewer for research funding institutions and has been regularly involved in research supervision and juries for international competitions in Architecture and Urban Design. Habiba Al Mar’ashi is the Co-founder and Chairperson of the Emirates Environmental Group (EEG), a pioneering non-governmental organisation (NGO) based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), founded in 1991. Since then, she has played a key role in the growth of the EEG, which is an active multi-sectoral organisation, and has successfully brought the government, private sector, academia and the community under the same banner. Under her leadership, the EEG became the first environmental NGO in the world to receive an ISO 14001 certification, in 2001. The EEG is also the only organisation of its kind in the gulf region with accreditation from the United Nations Convention to Combating Desertification (UNCCD) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Governing Council. EEG is a member of the UN Global Compact and hosted its Local Network for the Gulf States from 2008 to 2015. EEG is also a member of the International Union for Conservation of Nature, since 2008. These accreditations ensure the Group’s involvement and participation in international environmental discussions, programmes and campaigns. In 2004, Habiba initiated the first corporate social responsibility (CSR) network in the arab region, as the only multi-stakeholder forum with local and multi-national entities. In addition to this, she also initiated and rolled-out the first CSR Awards for the arab world, in 2008. Habiba was the first Arab woman to become a Board Member of the UN Global Compact from 2006 to 2013. She was a Member of the Global Reporting Initiative Stakeholder Council for two terms from 2012 to 2017 (inclusive). Furthermore, she was unanimously elected as the Global NGO Representative to UNEP’s Major Groups Facilitating Committee and served from 2013 to 2015 inclusive. Apart from this, she is one of the founders of the Emirates Green Building Council and serves as the Vice Chair and Treasurer to the council. Mrs. Al Mar’ashi is also a member of the Membership Committee of the World Green Building Council. She is on the Advisory Committee of the Det Norske Veritas (DNV-GL) Certification Advisory Board for the Middle East. She is a member of the Patronage Committee of myclimate – an international climate protection organization, based in Switzerland. Mrs. Al Mar’ashi is involved in many leading initiatives on environment / sustainability, CSR, women and development at the national, regional and international levels. She is a recognised representative and spokesperson for West Asian Arab Women at high ranking international summits. Dr. Mustapha Taoumi is the Energy Technology Expert of the “EU GCC Clean Energy Technology Network” project, since January 2016. Dr. Taoumi has been leading Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency projects and technology deployment for over 30 years. He has worked with US AID, GIZ (Germany), JICA (Japan) and EU (DGXII) as Project and Programme Manager. He has conducted numerous feasibility and planning studies, building programs and has implemented projects on the ground. He assisted local institutions to develop strategic plans in sustainable energy. He managed numerous seminars and training workshops concerning the use of renewable energy and energy efficiency. Dr. Taoumi was also involved in several initiatives and projects with a regional scope particularly in MENA and Mediterranean regions including the Mediterranean Solar Plan (MSP). As a Regional Programme Officer for North Africa and the Middle East region (MENA) within the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the first global intergovernmental organisation dedicated to all renewables, Dr. Taoumi managed several projects and initiatives across MENA region including Renewables Readiness Assessment (RRA), assessment of local manufacturing potential in the Arab region and recently the Pan Arab Clean Energy initiative (PACE). Dr. Taoumi held several key positions including Secretary General and Interim Executive Director within the National Renewable Energy Centre (CDER) in Morocco - now transformed on a National dedicated Agency (ADEREE) as well as Executive Secretary of the Mediterranean Association of the National Agencies for Energy Conservation (MEDENER- Network).
